Ofrendas, literally translating to offerings, are usually large and intricate works placed on an altar or shrine during Dia de los Muertos to pay respects and to keep the memory of loved ones who have passed.
Ni de aquí, ni de allá, neither from here nor there, is a phrase known amongst 1st generation folks. I am Guatemalan American, born and raised in New England, in a city that, at the time, did not have a noticeable Central American community. My parents were the only exposure to our home country that my brothers and I had.
